Geez Louise! It really is true that a little lipstick and rouge will turn your whole day around. My grandma always used to insist on wearing lipstick to every occasion, being it an afternoon function, a doctor's appointment, or a mundane trip to the grocery store. I even put lipstick on her a year or so back when we took a spin around the road in our pajamas. She just always insisted that lipstick made all the difference in the world. She was right.
Today was a big day. I got up this morning like a normal person, had a cup of coffee, dropped my nephew off at school, and faced the day with gusto. I was bound and determined to make it to the office for the morning meeting. I can't do much, but I felt like this was something I was capable of accomplishing, and let's face it, I need a daily challenge or else I will just eat Reeses peanut butter eggs all day and watch Real Housewives. (Just a note, Orange County Seasons 1 and 2 are in marathon format during the day. I highly suggest you set your DVR so you get caught up on all the drama. Make things happen people.)
So my daily routine usually involves a shower, drying the hair, and a little moisturizer-basically whatever I can get in before I need a nap again. Today I busted out the lip gloss and, wait for it....the high heels. That's right, the heels. Here's the deal, I really want to be super woman, but super woman at least could tie her own boots. I can't even reach my own feet, so I have been wearing slippers for three weeks. Flats don't even cut it because I can't pull the heel on, so slippers it is. As I stood in front of the closet this morning deciding which dingy pair of slippers to wear today, my eye wandered to corner. There sat my black, slouchy, pull on boots-shoe of the month, October, in case you are interested. I swear it was like light shined down from the heavens right into my shoe closet. So I pulled them out and slid my foot in. After a little wiggling, I managed to get my foot far enough in that I could pull them on. BEST DAY EVER!
So my boots and I made our way to the meeting. It was great. I haven't felt so strong and confident in weeks! I was so happy to see everyone again. I miss everyone like crazy; it's hard to go cold turkey when you spend so much time with such crazy people. Catching up was great, but holy smokes I was worn out when I got home...and no, my feet didn't hurt. Baby steps, I guess.
So it really is true that if you look good, you feel better. Ladies, if you are having a bad day or feeling a little down, just reach into the bottom of your purse and pull out that lip gloss. Shirley Howard says you need a little lipstick and everything will be alright.
